If you reveal everything, bare every feeling, ask for understanding, you lose something crucial to your sense of yourself. You need to know things that others don’t know. It’s what no one knows about you that allows you to know yourself.

Education at Waldorf: Technology surely can wait |The New York Times

I went to a Waldorf grade school and will always be grateful for the foundations it gave me in learning, hands-on problem solving and creativity, and also for instilling in me a ongoing love and curiosity for art, science, history, cultures, language and philosophy. So many things I learned in those years have been invaluable to me in adulthood, and continue to enrich my life.

I’ve now worked for seven years in the technology sector, as an IT security professional and consultant, and I love my computers and gadgets in work and play. However, I agree with others that have said that technology in early learning and development would be a distraction and even a detriment if it becomes a crutch. What’s important in early education is for children to develop their natural ability to learn in any context, through communication, interactivity and creativity. Here, Waldorf excels, and I would pay my last cent for my children to have that education too.

We should not be so quick to flood grade school education with new technologies, simply because it’s available or because we think it could give us an edge in global economic competition. Computers today are easy to learn to use at any age, quickly and effectively. But there are only a few short, critical years of early development in which to teach a child the basics of being human, how to love learning, and the best ways of working with others. There is no app for that, and there never will be.

Kapan ya di Indonesia ada yang begini? Well, I religiously believe that this kind of school is so damn expensive, isn’t it? Well anyway, yg selalu bikin semangat adalah: membaca komentarnya orang-orang! selalu menyenangkan! bagaimana mereka berargumen satu dengan yg lain — tanpa menyerang (kadang sarcasm juga sih, but in elegant way) serta selalu mengutarakan their strong opinion — alias pendapat lugas mereka — individually! Oh, reading NYTimes is always such a pleasure and relaxing time, alhamdulillah banget deh :)

The fact of the matter is, I want everything we do, that I do personally, that our office does, to be beautiful. I don’t give a damn whether the client understands that that’s worth anything, or that the client thinks it’s worth anything, or whether it is worth anything. It’s worth it to me. It’s the way I want to live my life. I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares. —Saul Bass

To be honest Mr. Bass, this is also one of the most beautiful things i heard in my life. And thank you for sharing it with us.

Geslaaaaaaaagd! =) Alhamdulillah finally after three years of struggling, I’ve made this day to happen. These two persons who’ve always encourage me, no matter what, keeping me always in a positive attitude. Danke Schoen Roland! Bedankt Mannes!

For the sake of master thesis

“Application of TETRAD in Information System Theory Development using Knowledge Sharing Literature: Case study based approach” on the 31 of August, 2011.

I hope that day will be end of my journey and will be the beginning of (yet) another dazzling beautiful journey. Bismillah. I remember watched Shawshank Redemption (for the many times for now) last weekend, it was aired and I watched it with abang, accidentally. It is the saying from Andy to Red (Morgan Freeman) about hope.

[in a letter]

“Dear Red, If you’re reading this, you’ve gotten out. And if you’ve come this far, maybe you’re willing to come a little further. You remember the name of the town, don’t you? I could use a good man to help me get my project on wheels. I’ll keep an eye out for you and the chessboard ready. Remember, Red. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. I will be hoping that this letter finds you, and finds you well.

Your friend, Andy.

Ramadhan hari ke-22,
Enschede in a summer time — almost fall, 22 August 2011.

Rindu ini adalah:

Menangis dalam kesendirian,
Yang ingin dipeluk hanyalah Ibu,
Berjuta kata ternyata tak bisa ungkapkan,
Rasa rindu kepada-Mu.

Ingin berlari dan teriak,
Keluarkan semua nestapa,
Jikalau telah datang air yang beriak,
Hendaklah engkau pergi tergesa.

Ayah dan Ibu permata hati,
Tangis dan tawanya terdengar di surau,
Hanya Engkau-lah Yang Maha Rahman penjaga hati,
Tempatku bersandar dan meminta kemilau.
